Young athletes from Ulverston Otters Swimming Club celebrated in style at their recent annual awards evening.

The club welcomed John Hornby, founder and chairman of JF Hornby & Co, as a special guest.

Hornbys are long-time supporters of the Otters, providing vital financial grants over many years through the Hornby Foundation.

Whilst the night was all about the swimmers, their hard work and progression, John said he felt “genuinely humbled” to be involved.

Speaking after the event, he said: “It’s been a privilege to watch the Otters grow and thrive over the years. Their commitment to the sport, to achieving excellence, and to putting Ulverston on the map is commendable.

“It is always a privilege to spend time with members of the club and to see young swimmers blossom into champions on the local and national stage. It has been out pleasure to support the club over the years, and we hope our association continues to thrive.”

The ceremony recognised standout performances from the past year and applauded the quiet, consistent effort that goes into training sessions week in, week out.

Ulverston Otters continues to go from strength to strength, fielding a strong team across a range of age groups. With the backing of organisations like JF Hornby & Co, and the passion of coaches, parents, and volunteers, the future looks bright for one of Cumbria’s most respected swimming clubs.
