A trainee accountant at JF Hornby & Co has taken the next major step towards achieving full chartered status.

Carly Atkinson, who joined the firm as an apprentice in 2023, has now begun studying for the ACA qualification – also known as the Level 7 apprenticeship.

The programme requires candidates to complete 14 exams, alongside structured workplace learning.

Carly studies one day each week while continuing her role within the accounts team, applying her learning directly to client work.

Upon completion, she will qualify as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.

Carly said: “Starting my ACA feels like a big milestone, but it’s only possible because of the opportunities and guidance I’ve had so far.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has taken the time to help me grow. My goal now is to keep building my knowledge and work towards becoming a chartered accountant.”

Carly previously completed her Level 3 AAT qualification, the success of which marked her first major milestone with the firm.

Her progression is part of JF Hornby’s continued commitment to developing young professionals by offering a fully funded, structured training route into the industry via the Hornby Academy.

Managing Director Paul Hornby said: “Carly is a great example of the talent coming through our apprenticeship pathways. She works hard, contributes positively, and continues to develop her skills. We’re pleased to support her as she takes this next step.”
