MEMBERS of the community are being invited to nominate friends and neighbours who may benefit from a festive hamper this Christmas.

JF Hornby & Co has relaunched its Hampers of Hope campaign for 2023 after positive feedback from last year’s efforts.

Now Managing Director Paul Hornby is urging people to nominate those who might benefit.

He said: “We know life has been tough for so many people over the last 12 months, with inflation hitting everybody in the pocket and having a meaningful impact on quality of life – sometimes to the degree that serious sacrifices have had to be made.

“I believe that if you are in a position to help, you should, which is why we have relaunched our Hampers of Hope campaign for another year.

“There are a whole host of reasons why you might choose to nominate a family or an individual; they may have done something amazing for the community, be struggling to make ends meet or live alone and need a festive boost.

“We are open to suggestions and very much look forward to getting out and about across Ulverston and Barrow to spread some festive cheer to those who need it most.”

Colleagues at JF Hornby and Co will also be carrying out their annual trolley dash in aid of the Barrow and Ulverston food banks and will be piling trolleys high with toys in support of the Salvation Army Toy Appeal.

Demand for help from organisations such as food bank charity, the Trussell Trust has soared in recent months.

The Trust is expecting to provide more than one million emergency food parcels between December 2023 and February 2024 – the most parcels ever provided across this period.

This equates to an average of one food parcel every eight seconds (11,500 a day) and 7,000 people seeking support each day.

Meanwhile, not every child will wake up to the magic of Christmas on December 25. The Salvation Army Toy Appeal aims to combat that by supporting as many children living in poverty as possible.

Whilst the JFH trolley dash will see all food donated to local foodbanks, and toys go to the Salvation Army, the team will deliver the festive hampers themselves.

The hampers will be filled with Christmas food, snacks and treats.
