CELEBRATIONS are on the cards for two hardworking apprentices who have achieved a BA Hons degree in Accounting.

Esther Klijn and Becky Cronin received confirmation of their results this week following five years of training and study at leading chartered accountancy JF Hornby & Co.

The pair, who have also secured five years of experience at the award-winning firm’s Ulverston headquarters, are now on the way to becoming qualified accountants as they work towards completion of their professional exams.

Paul Hornby, JF Hornby & Co. managing director, said he was delighted for both Esther and Becky who had worked incredibly hard at every stage.

“There’s no doubt they both thoroughly deserve congratulations for their dedication to their studies and for the excellent contribution they have also made to our team along the way.

“They have maximised every opportunity and their results are testament to this.

“Apprenticeships are something we’re passionate about as a business – they offer a route towards qualification while gaining valuable experience in the workplace. Everyone is thrilled for them.”

Esther and Becky completed their BC Hons degree through the University of Central Lancashire, attending the course two days per week before the outbreak of the Covid pandemic last year.

They are also working towards completion of the ACA – the professional qualification of chartered accountants. This is something full time undergraduate students would traditionally begin working towards after securing their degree.

Esther said: “We’re so pleased to have completed the course and graduated. It’s been hard work but very rewarding too because we’ve been able to see what we’re learning in practice along the way.

“Everyone at Hornby’s has been so supportive – it’s lovely to have such good news to share.”

Becky, who was awarded a Dean’s List award after securing a First as well as a course prize for outstanding achievement, added: “I’m really glad I chose the apprenticeship route because we’ve gained so much experience while we’ve been studying.

“Becoming a qualified accountant is what we’ve both worked for. It’s a dream come true to be so close to achieving it.”
