A SPORTS centre has been given a safety boost after the JF Hornby & Co Have a Heart campaign sprung back into action.
Earlier this year, the initiative – which saw eight lifesaving defibrillators donated to key community venues and locations, came to an end.
One of them weas destined for the Daltongate Business Park in Ulverston where Hornby HQ is based – however the landlords have kindly offered to provide one.
That defibrillator and external housing box has now been made available for an activity centre in Barrow.
JF Hornby & Co Managing Director, Paul Hornby, met up with Gav Butler from Community Sports Arenas CIC to hand over the defibrillator package.
Community Sports Arenas CIC manage local sporting facilities. They currently oversee operations at the new UVHS sports complex and the St Bernards Activity Hall in Barrow where the defibrillator handed over will be housed on an external wall.
Paul said: “Community Sports Arenas CIC are doing great things and it was a pleasure to support this growing organisation with a state-of-the-art defibrillator and external housing unit.”
The JF Hornby & Co Have a Heart campaign was launched on Valentine’s Day 2024 with a pledge of £5,000 to deliver four defibrillators to communities most in need.
Due to the volume of requests, Paul doubled the pledge to £10,000, meaning eight of the life-saving devices could be purchased.
Funding has been provided by The Hornby Foundation, which is the company’s charitable arm.
The defibs have been distributed across the Ulverston, Barrow and Millom areas in the following locations: Ford Park, Ulverston; Roa Island, Barrow; Abbots Vale Community Centre, Barrow; Barrow AFC, Barrow; Barrow Astro Turf Pitches (ATP), Barrow; Millom Park, Millom; Silecroft Village and St Bernards Activity Hall in Barrow.
