With the sun (occasionally) shining and thoughts firmly on summer holidays, the last thing on most people’s minds is their tax return.
But at JF Hornby & Co, we’re encouraging clients to make this a summer of love – for their paperwork.
The January 31 deadline may feel a long way off, but getting organised early is one of the smartest moves you can make.
It reduces stress, builds in time to maximise efficiencies, and helps us do the very best job for you.

Be prepared: Paul Hornby’s plea to business owners
Paul Hornby, Managing Director, at Hornby’s said: “Every year, we see a rush in December and January – and while we always get the job done, the earlier we receive the information, the more thorough and efficient we can be. A bit of effort now means a smoother process all round.”
So, before the summer holidays sweep you away, here are five ways to get ahead:
1. Pull together your income details. This includes employment earnings, dividends, rental income, self-employed takings – anything HMRC needs to know.
2. Organise your paperwork. P60s, bank interest statements, pension contributions, expense receipts – clear and complete records make a big difference.
3. Stay accurate – and keep it real. Avoid guesswork. Double-check figures and include all relevant sources. And don’t be tempted to leave the odd bit out here and there!
4. Ask early. If you’re unsure about what’s needed or what’s allowable, ask now. It’s far better than discovering an issue later on.
5. Respond quickly. If we need clarification, a prompt reply helps keep everything on track.
The team at JF Hornby & Co, are here to take the hassle out of tax – but we need your help. So show your return a little love this summer… and we’ll take care of the rest. You can get in touch on 01229 588 077 or email jfh@jfhornby.com
