THEATRE lovers are being given the chance to win tickets to watch the next hit stage show from local favourites, the Ulverston Outsiders.
Baskerville, a farce based on the popular Sherlock Holmes novel, Hound of the Baskervilles, opens at the Coronation Hall on May 19.
Performed ‘in the round’ to intimate audiences of just 150, the production is sponsored by JF Hornby & Co and will run for four days.
Chris Barron, the Outsiders’ treasurer, said: “The cost of staging productions is increasing, so the support we receive from JF Hornby is a huge help.
“The relationship goes beyond financial though; it’s also beneficial to be associated with a very successful local business.
“We’re very grateful for their sponsorship and hope to see members of the Hornby’s team in the audience.”
A production played in the round is one which sees the audience elevated in a circle around the cast, providing for a more intimate and immersive experience.
Baskerville is a comic stage adaptation written by Ken Ludwig, based on The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle.
The play follows Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as they investigate the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville, rumoured to be caused by a supernatural hound stalking the moors.
Ludwig turns the original dark detective story into a lively, fast-paced comedy, keeping the central mystery intact while delivering plenty of theatrical flair and humour.
“There’s plenty of fun and laughs to be had with Baskerville,” said Chris.
“Our cast of 10 do the most wonderful job of playing more than 40 characters, with some taking on four or five different roles. That adds to the comedy and feel-good factor of this production, which is a real escape from doom and gloom we see every day on the news.”
JF Hornby & Co sponsor and support a variety of community organisations via their charitable arm, the Hornby Foundation. Baskerville is the third Outsiders production they have supported.
Managing Director of JF Hornby & Co, Paul Hornby, said: “It’s a real pleasure to support such a long established and important organisation in Ulverston.
“Promoting the arts and making them as accessible as possible is very important, and we are delighted to do this via our sponsorship of the Ulverston Outsiders.
“I have no doubt the talented cast will once again put on a show the town can be proud of and hope our competition winners enjoy a night at the theatre on us.”
To celebrate the partnership between JF Hornby & Co and the Ulverston Outsiders, we are offering 25 pairs of tickets to the opening performance on Tuesday, May 19. To enter, head to our Facebook page and keep an eye out for the competition post.
